What does Patina Mean? How Products Gain Character From Time
Everyone has unique characteristics that make us individually stand out from the crowd. These distinctive traits over time help us earn our story. Time is the key component in this formula of creating a personality. The life of a product is no different.
When we create new products we take time into account. Using longevity as our advantage instead of against us. The average consumer product is designed with an end date. This can be seen everywhere. Togo food's end date is pretty obvious. Cell phones are my favorite example of this, the most modern phone today will be outdated 24 months from now. Why is that?
As a Trayvax customer, we hope you are confident that our product life is to be trusted, it is something to sustain rather than degrade with extensive use. We design for longevity, back all our products with a 65-year warranty and only use the highest quality materials.
When a product leaves our warehouse doors our creation responsibility is done. The product is destined for its intended new owner. Upon opening the new Trayvax gear a patina process will begin & continue for years to come.
Consider How Leather Changes Overtime
Each bump, fold and knick has a story to tell, a battle scar of sorts. Over time these “scars” form a patina that is unique to each person. According the Merriam-Webster dictionary, patina is “an appearance or aura that is derived from association, habit, or established character.”
The way leather is made allows a patina to set in as it is used. Our American sourced, full-grain leather is perfect for telling your story in this way. Don’t worry, we remove all marks that look less pleasing or might affect function from our leather. After using our everyday carry product, look out for small aesthetic effects on our leather such as blemishes and battle scars to see what really makes your wallet unique!
Forming a Custom Fit
Offering a variety of color options and combinations at checkout allows for a touch of personalization. Certain products, such as the Element wallet, comes with a tutorial on how to soak your Trayvax Element after purchase. This speeds up the patina process by expanding the leather to the regular amount of cards you place inside. But what about those untold stories, when everything seems to go wrong?
Personally, I live by the quote “Go the extra mile, it is never crowded” with that I have got myself into some particular chaotic circumstances. Though they normally suck amidst the chaos, those stories are eventually my favorite to tell. The same goes for my Trayvax gear.
Over time my Contour wallet has fallen into muddy puddles, taken accidental rides on the roof of my car and has some battle scars from playing in the mountains. My Cinch Belt has had thorns stuck to it from hiking and most recently has reflected the centimeters gain in my waistline since the shelter in place orders.
We thrive to create durable gear that can withstand rough repetitive use. This comes with the responsibility of making sure our outdoor gear can last forever. Leave the high quality design and creation process up to us. We do recommend that you routinely clean your Trayvax leather gear.

Making Products That Last Forever
The concept behind Earn Your Story is not a marketing ploy but the impact we want to leave on the world. We are proud that our products will accompany the pockets, waistlines and shoulders of motivated women and men for decades to come. As we hand stitch an Element or tumble a batch of metal wallet plates, it is hard not to imagine the adventures people will go on; the life events the wallets would inevitably be there for and the duration of our products’ lifespan.
The way you live your natural life determines the patina effects that take place. The products we own aid in the routines we follow. Along the way these products show physical signs of the life they lived. From the repetitive commutes to work they joined and wild adventures they accompanied. We are proud to make American sourced products that are durable enough to stand up to the test of time.

I have had the Element since my birthday in November. I wish I had a picture of how it looked when I got it, because it looks nothing like it now. It’s darker, has oil stains, a nick from where I scratched it with a grinder. It’s hard to see the Trayvax logo anymore. I wouldn’t have it any other way. I still look at it and think how cool it looks. Thanks for a great product.
