Care Instructions
The Storyteller fire pit is made of carbon steel intended for a patina finish similar to a steel or cast iron cookware. Just like these pans, maintenance is simple, but important. Occasional wire brushing followed by a wipedown with mineral oil every few uses will keep your firepit lasting for decades. Always store undercover on a dry surface when not in use.
Clean-up
After the fire pit and coals have cooled completely, flip the fire pit upside down and shake ash and unburnt fuel into a metal container. Remove any ash between layers by tilting on end and shaking end vent. Do not leave ash in the fire pit between uses, as when mixed with water it can create a reaction that can accelerate corrosion.
Patina Process
A patina can be left to develop naturally with regular use and oiling, or you can force a patina for a more consistent finish. To force a patina, there are many solutions that can be used. Vinegar, salt water or even mustard are all household items that can create a patina. To apply, first clean exterior surfaces of all oil with water and dish soap. Apply your solution, repeating until desired effect is achieved, then rinse thoroughly with water and let dry.
