This July 4th marks 245 years of independence for our country. This seems like a long time, but in the scope of history, it is the blink of an eye. As we commemorate our independence, it is a time to remind ourselves that, 245 years later, we are still one nation. We have shared blessings and struggles in the course of our history as we have done our best to live up to the ideals set in place by our founders.

This year’s Independence Day is a chance to come together with our families and neighbors. It is a chance to celebrate the freedoms we all cherish. It is a time to remember our past and aspire to an even greater future for our descendants as we carry the torch that was lit 245 years ago.

Of course, the 4th of July is not all seriousness and reverence. We will have barbecues, we will light fireworks, we will listen to live music, and we will play our favorite sports. We will do the things that have always brought us together to remind ourselves how lucky we are to live in this country and how lucky we are to have each other.
